We read a comforting promise in Romans 8:28: “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” At first, this can be hard to believe. Life does not always feel good. There are days of loss, disappointment, and confusion.
Imagine standing in front of a large, messy puzzle. Scattered pieces lie everywhere, and none of it seems to make sense. But the one who sees the picture on the box knows how each piece fits. In the same way, God sees the whole picture of our lives, even when we only see broken pieces.
This verse does not say that all things are good. Pain is still painful. Mistakes still hurt. But it says God works through all things. Even our struggles can shape us, teach us, and draw us closer to Him. What feels wasted to us is never wasted in His hands.
Think of Joseph in the Old Testament, who faced betrayal and prison before becoming a leader. What others meant for harm, God used for good. His story reminds us that God’s plans often unfold slowly, but they unfold with purpose.
Romans 8:28 invites us to trust. When we love God and follow Him, we can rest knowing He is at work behind the scenes, turning even hard moments into part of a greater story.
