Matthew 6:19–21 records Jesus saying, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” These words challenge us to think about what we value most.
Imagine filling a room with beautiful things—clothes, gadgets, decorations. At first, they bring excitement. But over time, they wear out, break, or lose their shine. Earthly treasures never last forever. They can be stolen, damaged, or forgotten.
Jesus was not saying that possessions are always wrong. Instead, He was warning us not to build our lives around them. When money or status becomes our focus, our hearts become tied to things that fade. Anxiety often follows, because we fear losing what we have.
He invites us to invest in treasures that cannot be taken away. Acts of kindness, generosity, forgiveness, and faith create lasting impact. When we love others and honor God, we build something eternal.
Matthew 6:19–21 reminds us that our hearts follow what we treasure. When we place our highest value on God and His kingdom, our lives gain deeper purpose. Earthly things may pass away, but a heart centered on Him will never lose its reward.
