The Breath of Life

The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. – Genesis 2:7 (NIV)

Genesis 2:7 tells us that God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. This shows both our humility and our worth. We come from dust, yet we are made alive by God Himself.

Being formed from dust reminds us that we are human and limited. We are not self-made or self-sustaining. Our lives depend completely on God’s care and provision. This truth keeps us humble and aware of our need for Him.

God breathing life into man shows His closeness and intention. Life is not an accident. God personally gave life, showing that every person is created with purpose and value. We are here because God wanted us to be.

This verse also reminds us that true life comes from God. Our strength, meaning, and hope are found in Him. When we feel empty or worn down, we can return to the One who first gave us breath.

Genesis 2:7 invites us to live with gratitude. Each breath is a gift from God. As we remember that He is the source of life, we are encouraged to trust Him, honor Him, and live each day with purpose and thankfulness.
