Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Jesus spoke these words during the Sermon on the Mount. He was teaching ordinary people how to live in a way that reflects God’s heart.
Imagine placing a small lamp in a dark room. Even a little light changes everything. It helps people see where to walk. It brings comfort and direction. The lamp does not shout for attention; it simply shines.
In the same way, our lives can shine through simple acts of kindness, honesty, and compassion. A patient word during conflict, a helping hand to someone in need, or a quiet prayer for a friend can make a lasting difference. These actions may seem small, but they carry great meaning.
Jesus reminds us that the purpose of shining is not to draw praise to ourselves. It is to point others toward God. When people see love in action, they begin to notice the source of that love.
Matthew 5:16 encourages us to shine right where we are. We do not need a stage or spotlight. In everyday moments, our faithful actions can reflect God’s goodness and bring light into someone’s day.
