(story told in Matthew 27-28; Mark 15-16; Luke 23-24; John 19-20)
Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ most devoted followers. The Bible says that Jesus freed her from seven demons, transforming her life completely. From that moment on, she followed Him faithfully, supporting His ministry and staying close to Him when others turned away. Her deep gratitude and love for Jesus made her one of the most faithful disciples in His story.
When Jesus was arrested and crucified, Mary did not run or hide. She stood near the cross with His mother and others, watching with a broken heart as the One she loved suffered and died. After His body was taken down, she followed to see where He was laid in the tomb, determined to honor Him even in death. Her loyalty did not end at the cross—it continued through her grief.
Early on the third day, while it was still dark, Mary went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. To her shock, she found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Thinking someone had taken Him, she wept outside. Then Jesus appeared to her, though at first she did not recognize Him. When He spoke her name—“Mary”—she knew it was Him. Overcome with joy, she became the first person to see the risen Lord.
Jesus told her to go and tell His disciples that He was alive. Mary obeyed immediately, becoming the first messenger of the resurrection.
Mary Magdalene’s story is one of love, faith, and devotion. From deliverance to discipleship, she remained close to Jesus in both sorrow and joy. Her life reminds us that those who seek Jesus with a sincere heart will always find hope—even beyond the grave.
