Psalm 121:1–2 says, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” These words were sung by travelers journeying toward Jerusalem. The road was long, and dangers were real.
Imagine walking a steep path surrounded by tall hills. The climb is tiring, and you are unsure what lies ahead. Bandits could hide among the rocks. Wild animals might roam nearby. It would be natural to feel anxious and small in such a setting.
The psalm begins with a question: Where does my help come from? The answer is clear and confident. Help does not come from the mountains themselves or from human strength alone. It comes from the Lord—the One who created the mountains and everything else.
When we face challenges, we often look around for solutions. We rely on plans, people, or resources. While these can be helpful, our deepest security rests in God. He is not limited by time, distance, or circumstances.
Psalm 121:1–2 reminds us to lift our eyes higher. When life feels steep and uncertain, we can look to the Maker of heaven and earth. From Him comes steady help, faithful care, and strength for every step of the journey.
