Proverbs 3:9–10 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing.” These words paint a simple but powerful picture about trust and priority.
Imagine a farmer at harvest time. After months of hard work, the crops are finally ready. It would be tempting to keep the best portion for himself, just in case the next season is uncertain. Yet this proverb calls him to give the first and best part to God.
Giving first requires faith. It means trusting that God will provide even after we have shared what seems most valuable. The farmer’s act is not about losing grain; it is about showing gratitude and recognizing that everything came from God in the first place.
Today, we may not gather crops from fields, but we do receive income, time, and talents. Honoring God with our “firstfruits” can mean giving generously, serving willingly, and placing Him at the center of our decisions.
Proverbs 3:9–10 reminds us that generosity begins with trust. When we honor God first, we declare that He is our provider. As we open our hands in faith, we discover that God is faithful to care for us in ways that reach beyond our barns and into our hearts.
