Day 276: Jesus Gives the Great Commission

*Matthew 28:16-20

Jesus assures his disciples of his authority, commissions them to make disciples of all nations, and promises to be with them always.

  • Gathering of the Disciples:
    • Jesus meets his disciples at the appointed mountain in Galilee, as he had instructed them.
  • Response of the Disciples:
    • Some of the disciples worshiped Jesus upon seeing him, while others may have had doubts.
  • The Great Commission:
    • Jesus commissions his disciples with a divine mandate to go and make disciples of all nations.
    • He instructs them to baptize new believers in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
    • Jesus emphasizes the importance of teaching new disciples to obey everything he has commanded.
  • Promise of Jesus’ Presence:
    • Jesus assures his disciples of his continual presence with them as they carry out this mission.
    • He promises to be with them always, even to the end of the age.

Matthew 28:16-20 reminds us that Jesus calls us to share His message with others. Before He returned to heaven, He told His disciples to go and make more disciples, teaching them to follow His ways. This applies to us today—we are called to share Jesus’ love through our words and actions. We don’t have to be perfect or have all the answers; we just need to be willing to tell others about Him. And we don’t have to be afraid—Jesus promises to be with us always, giving us the strength and guidance we need.

Matthew 28:16-20 (WEB)

28:16 But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had sent them. 17 When they saw him, they bowed down to him; but some doubted. 18 Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
