Day 254: Betrayal and Passover Preparations

*Luke 22:1-13

As the Passover approaches, the plot to arrest Jesus unfolds while he instructs disciples to prepare for the Last Supper.

  • The Plot to Kill Jesus:
    • The Feast of Unleavened Bread, known as the Passover, is approaching.
    • Chief priests and scribes seek a way to kill Jesus, but are wary of the people who hold him in high regard.
  • Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus:
    • Satan enters Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve apostles.
    • Judas goes to the chief priests and temple officers to discuss betraying Jesus.
    • They are pleased and agree to give Judas money.
    • Judas seeks an opportunity to betray Jesus when no crowd is present.
  • Preparations for the Passover:
    • Jesus instructs Peter and John to prepare the Passover meal.
    • They ask where to make preparations, and Jesus provides specific instructions.
    • He tells them that upon entering the city, they will meet a man carrying a jar of water who will lead them to a house.
    • They are to ask the owner of the house to show them the guest room where Jesus will eat the Passover with his disciples.
    • The owner will show them a large, furnished upper room.
    • Peter and John follow these directions, finding everything just as Jesus said, and prepare the Passover meal.

Luke 22:1-13 shows us the importance of trusting God’s plan and being ready to serve Him. Jesus’ disciples followed His instructions to prepare for the Passover, even though they didn’t know all the details. This teaches us to trust God, even when we don’t see the whole picture. We can apply this by being faithful in small things, obeying God’s guidance, and being ready to serve others. Instead of worrying about the future, we should focus on doing what God asks of us today, knowing that He is in control and will provide what we need.

Luke 22:1-13 (WEB)

22:1 Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching. The chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death, for they feared the people.
Satan entered into Judas, who was also called Iscariot, who was counted with the twelve. He went away and talked with the chief priests and captains about how he might deliver him to them. They were glad, and agreed to give him money. He consented and sought an opportunity to deliver him to them in the absence of the multitude.
The day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover must be sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”
They said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare?”
10 He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters. 11 Tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?” ’ 12 He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make preparations there.”
13 They went, found things as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
