*Psalm 1:1-6
The first psalm describes the blessings of following God’s instructions and the misfortune of the wicked.
- Blessedness of the Righteous:
- The psalm begins by proclaiming the blessedness of the righteous, describing them as those who do not walk in the counsel of the wicked, stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.
- Instead, the righteous find delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night, and they are compared to a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.
- Contrast with the Wicked:
- In contrast to the righteous, the wicked are described as chaff that the wind blows away, having no stability or lasting significance.
- The psalm emphasizes the fate of the wicked, who will not stand in the judgment or be counted among the righteous in the assembly of the righteous.
- Divine Knowledge and Guidance:
- The psalm concludes by affirming that the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
- The righteous are known and guided by the Lord, who blesses them with prosperity and security, while the wicked face judgment and condemnation for their actions.
1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
