Asking for Wisdom

James 1:5 gives a simple promise: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” These words remind us that we do not have to face life’s decisions alone.

Imagine standing at a crossroads with several paths ahead. Each one looks possible, but you are unsure which leads in the right direction. You could guess and hope for the best, or you could ask someone who knows the way. Wisdom is like that trusted guide.

God invites us to ask Him directly. He does not grow tired of our questions or scold us for not knowing what to do. Instead, He gives generously. That means He shares insight through Scripture, prayer, wise counsel, and even through life experience.

Sometimes we hesitate to ask because we think we should already know the answer. Pride can keep us silent. But humility opens the door to guidance. When we admit our need, we create space for God to lead.

James 1:5 encourages us to turn to God first when we are uncertain. Whether the decision is small or life-changing, we can pray with confidence. The God who cares for us is ready to give the wisdom we need for each step ahead.
