Psalm 91:1–2 says, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” These words paint a picture of safety and closeness.
Imagine a sudden storm rolling across an open field. The wind howls, and rain begins to fall hard. A traveler runs toward a small stone cabin and steps inside. The storm still rages outside, but within those walls there is calm.
Psalm 91 speaks of God as that kind of shelter. To dwell in His shelter means to stay close to Him, to trust Him daily. It is not a quick visit during trouble, but a steady relationship built over time.
Calling God our refuge and fortress shows confidence. A fortress is strong and unshaken. Life may bring fear, illness, or uncertainty, but God remains steady. His presence gives rest even when circumstances do not change.
This passage reminds us that true security is not found in wealth or control. It is found in trusting God. When we choose to dwell in His care, we discover peace beneath His shadow, safe in the strength of His love.
