A Gift We Could Never Earn

Ephesians 2:8–9 shares a life-changing truth: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” These words remind us that salvation is not a reward for good behavior, but a gift freely given.

Imagine receiving an unexpected present from someone who loves you deeply. You did not work for it. You did not pay for it. All you can do is open your hands and accept it with gratitude. That is what grace is like. It is God giving us what we could never earn on our own.

Many people spend their lives trying to prove they are good enough. They measure themselves against others or carry quiet guilt over past mistakes. But this passage gently tells us that our efforts cannot save us. No amount of good deeds can erase sin. That is why Jesus came—to do for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Faith is simply trusting in what Christ has already done. It is admitting our need and believing that His sacrifice is enough. When we place our faith in Him, we step into a relationship built on grace, not performance.

Ephesians 2:8–9 invites us to rest. We are saved not because we are perfect, but because God is merciful. And that gift changes everything.
