Matthew 5:14 says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” With these words, Jesus reminded His followers that their lives were meant to shine.
Imagine walking through a neighborhood during a power outage. Everything is dark and quiet. Then, in the distance, you see a single porch light glowing from a house on a hill. That small light stands out clearly against the darkness.
Jesus says His followers are like that light. We do not create the light on our own; it comes from Him. But when we live with kindness, honesty, and faith, His light shines through us. Others begin to notice.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden because its lights are visible from far away. In the same way, our actions speak loudly. A gentle word, a helping hand, or a patient response can brighten someone’s day more than we realize.
Matthew 5:14 calls us to live openly and faithfully. The world can feel dark at times, filled with fear or anger. Yet even one life lived with love can make a difference. When we allow Christ’s light to shine in us, we help guide others toward hope.
