Strength for the Journey

Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged; for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Joshua 1:9 is God’s encouragement to Joshua as he steps into leadership. God tells him to be strong and courageous, not afraid or discouraged. Joshua was facing a new and challenging responsibility, but he was not facing it alone.

God knew Joshua would feel fear. That is why He spoke words of strength. Courage does not mean the absence of fear; it means trusting God even when fear is present.

God also gave Joshua a reason for confidence: “For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” God’s presence was the true source of Joshua’s strength, not his skills or experience.

This verse speaks to us when we face new beginnings or hard seasons. Whether starting something new or walking through difficulty, God’s promise remains the same. He is with us every step of the way.

Joshua 1:9 reminds us that we can move forward with confidence. When fear tries to hold us back, we can trust in God’s presence. With Him beside us, we can walk in strength, courage, and faith.
