Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. – Exodus 34:14 (NIV)
Exodus 34:14 says that the Lord is a jealous God. This does not mean God is selfish or insecure. It means He deeply desires a faithful relationship with His people, just as someone wants honesty and loyalty in a loving relationship.
God knows that worshiping other gods leads to harm. False gods cannot love, guide, or save us. God’s jealousy is rooted in care and protection, not control. He wants what is best for His people.
This verse reminds us that God does not want to share our worship. Our hearts were made for Him alone. When we give our deepest trust to other things, we slowly drift away from the life God wants for us.
God’s jealousy shows how personal our relationship with Him is. He is not distant or indifferent. He cares about where our hearts are and what we value most.
Exodus 34:14 invites us to reflect on our devotion. God calls us to worship Him fully and faithfully. When we give Him our whole heart, we experience a deeper, richer relationship with the God who loves us.
