No Other Gods

You shall have no other gods before me. – Exodus 20:3 (NIV)

Exodus 20:3 says, “You shall have no other gods before me.” This is the first of the Ten Commandments and sets the foundation for all the others. God begins by calling His people to place Him first.

This command reminds us that God alone deserves our worship. He is the Creator and the One who rescued Israel from slavery. No person, object, or idea should take His place in our hearts.

Other “gods” today may not look like statues. They can be money, success, comfort, or even our own plans. Anything we trust more than God or love more than Him can become a false god.

Putting God first means trusting Him above everything else. It means listening to His guidance and shaping our lives around His truth. When God is first, everything else finds its proper place.

Exodus 20:3 invites us to examine our hearts. God is not trying to limit us, but to lead us into true freedom. When we worship Him alone, we discover a life built on trust, peace, and faithfulness.
