2 John: Walking in Truth and Love

Walk in Truth and Love (2 John 1:1–13)

In 2 John, the apostle John writes a short but important letter to encourage believers to stay faithful to the truth about Jesus. He reminds them that God’s truth is unchanging and lasts forever. Believing the truth about who Jesus is and what He has done is the foundation of the Christian life.

John also emphasizes the importance of love. Christians are called to love one another, following the command Jesus gave. Love is more than feelings—it is shown through kindness, obedience, and care. When believers walk in truth and love together, they show the world what God is like.

However, John warns that there are false teachers who deny that Jesus came in the flesh. This teaching is dangerous because it removes the heart of the gospel. John tells the believers not to welcome or support those who spread false messages about Jesus. Protecting the truth is important for the health of the church.

John encourages believers to stay alert and stand firm in what they have learned. Holding on to the truth ensures they will receive the full reward God has promised. Faithfulness to Jesus means continuing to follow His teachings and living in a way that honors Him.

At the end of the letter, John shares his desire to visit in person so their joy can be complete. He sends greetings from the believers who are with him. 2 John reminds us that the Christian life is built on two essential things: staying true to God’s Word and showing love in our actions. When we walk in both truth and love, we remain close to Jesus.
